Behind the Magic: Lets Talk Design with Kristy
Our Co-Founder's Journey from Inspiration to Innovation!
Here at Good Change one of our core principles is great design.
Join us as we sit down with our co-founder Kristy as she opens up about her sources of inspiration that shape her unique design approach.
What role does personal style play in your design process
"I am a true believer in making sure that the space within the home should be a true reflection of the person(s) who inhabit the house. I have never been a follower of fashion but like to personalise everything with my own style and quirks.
I am all about filling my home with timeless pieces of art, personal heirlooms and anything that is meaningful to me and my family. I like to clutter the house with the kids art as well too and anything that is educational for them is always a top priority ie beautiful wall atlas’s and meaningful expressions from poets and philosophers. Anything that provokes thoughtfulness and allows meaningful conversations is an important part of my interior style."
What are your top 5 items in your home that spark joy?
-
My homemade pottery plates tucked away in the draw but used daily as a functional part of our kitchen
-
My colourful Anthropology plates I purchased in New York in 2014 which live on the wall as a piece of art
-
My pottery Guinea Fowl I purchased as the one memory of our family trip to the South of France from a little village called Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie
-
My eclectic array of pot plants which create a small forest throughout our home and make me feel constantly connected to nature
-
A painting by Nicola Bennett – an artist based at Okere Falls who sees a direct relationship between the way a meal put together and the way a painting is put together. The painting is an abstract of Fig and Pistachio Pan Forte. I look at it daily with absolute culinary and aesthetic pleasure
Is incorporating sustainability into your design projects important?
"All of our products we launch need to sit on 3 pillars. They need to be planet friendly, affordable and look good. So with each product we launch we make sure all of these boxes are ticked.
The packaging also needs to follow suit so that the sustainable icons are clearly visible on the packaging and speak to the consumer and the actual designs of the physical product are in tones which a not over bearing but are connected to natures pallet."
What were the key design elements when it came to Good Change design
"Good Change has always been about timeless sophistication. Our brand is paired back and amongst the crowds of bright coloured brands with maximalist detail we stand out as being simple and clear, relaying a message which is easy to understand.
The bottles along with our other products are sustainable products however they were designed to be an extension of your interiors in the home or office. We wanted our customers to feel proud to have these products on their benchtop
(I don’t know too many people who would like a plastic bottle of Ajax on display!) We were tired of the brown ‘Boston’ style bottle that everyone seems to use so decided we would design our own that was sophisticated and different yet timeless.
We don’t launch lots of designs of our eco cloths but use few and simple designs which everyone has grown to love. Every few years we reinvigorate the cloth colours and designs. These are based on universal trends we see coming from Europe that we know will last the test of time. The existing cloths almost become like a collectors item."
What are the top trends in 2024 you are seeing that really appeal to you?
"Incorporating elements of nature into indoor spaces (which is what I already do) to really create that overall connection to the environment (using lots of different pot plants to do this and also wild flowers from up the road or the local paddock.
With changing work and living patterns I love the way many are designing flexible work spaces for more adaptability. Many people, post Covid, are working from home so its important to create multi-functional spaces.
Vintage and modern mix – I love the mix of old and new. A nod to the past and a modern twist to bring a room or space alive. It gives feelings of nostalgia but also fosters excitement for the future."
